The Bermuda 5C skimmer has been plugged in and running for a little over 24 hours and already the results are noticeable.

The cloudiness in the tank is going down and the addition of the 2 eheim recirculation pumps to the body of the skimmer seem to be making a big difference in the creation of micro bubbles to assist in the saponification.

Reef Tank - Build Day 4 - Plumbing Done - Water Test Falied

Busy day! Finally assembled all of the plumbing and pipes. I’m quite pleased with the end result.

With all the pipes and sump in place, it was time to test the plumbing by filling the aquarium for the first time. Sean put the rubber hose connected to my garden hose in the tank. This rubber hose also has a siphon (powered by the garden hose) which can be quickly used to drain the tank should a major leak occur.

Reef Tank - Build Day 1 - Not A Good Day

One step forward, seven steps back. What a frustrating day!

Everything started off well and I prepared a custom pad to protect the hardwood floor from the 2300 lbs. (about 1000 kg) about to be placed on a 6 ft x 2 ft (1.83 m x 0.61 m) space.

I used interlocking foam pads and had to add a few inches to one end and fabricate corner pieces to fit. Elmer’s Carpenter glue and toothpicks made this easy.
