Here goes another set of amazing images! Enjoy!

Paris

What does it say here?
Really? Guess again. Check the bottom of this post for the answer.

Alien

The gray lines appear to be tinted pink, but they are not.
Also, there seems to be something moving along the spiral.

Optical Illusions - The Checker Shadow Illusion

Here goes another set of amazing images! Enjoy!

The Checker Shadow Illusion

This illusion, created by Edward H. Adelson is quite amazing. I had to verify in Photoshop before I was convinced. Hard to believe, but its true!

The squares marked A and B are the same shade of gray.

The full explanation can be found here, but in essence this has to do with the fact that our brain is trying to assign and determine a color/shade for the checker in the the shadow of the cylinder. After several attempts to paraphrase and understand the reason, you’ll just have to read for yourself to understand. However, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here goes the visual proof:

Word Scramble - Powerful Brains

Amazing how our brain works. When first looking at this paragraph the words don’t necessarily appear to make any sense. However, if focus is placed on the beginning of the text, and you begin to read it, you’ll find no trouble at all doing so at a speed close to normal and its totally comprehensible.

Worldwide Traffic Before Migration

I’m impressed with the rapid increase in visitors.

This screen is from the wordpress.com version of the blog, after about 15 days traffic was coming in from all parts of the world and generating over 100 daily visits.

There’s no easy way to migrate from one site to another. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Going forward all activity will be on itaysworld.com.

While I’ve got you here, I might as well try and tell you something useful. If you’re using the wordpress.com blog and want to get a really cool view into how many visitors are on your site in real time, and cumulative visits from places around the world, visit http://amung.us/ and get their super fast and easy javascript code for your page.

Do Not Underestimate Wordpress.com!

Not that I do, but the truth is that after migrating my wordpress.com blog to my own hosted version of Word Press, I have a renewed respect and appreciation for how easy and friendly things have gotten on the web. And hats of to Word Press as well for making this possible.

The instructions on how carry out the migration are self explanatory, and other than the fact that my tags did not export correctly (they turned into numeric values, instead of retaining the text) the rest was a simple as exporting the XML RSS feed from the .com version and importing it into WP on my hosted site.

Being a technologist and working in the industry it still struck me how we take for granted so many things in this day and age. We shop online in confidence that we know what product we want, and explore every feature, aspect and technicality of any item one could imagine, we can see pictures from every angle and position, know what the best price is, what the competing brands/products are, what others are saying about it and we can feel pretty good clicking “Buy” and wait for a delivery.

An interesting thought, perhaps for another time, is the psychology of knowing so much about what we buy ahead of time. I speak from experience that by the time I looked at all the options, variables and finally decided to buy, I’m so excited about my purchase that the desire, need and impatience is magnified, a lot. I want instant gratification. And by the time I actually get the item, I know much about it, and have been expecting it so, that its almost like it fills a void; fulfills a necessity.

But I digressed from the topic at hand. My point, illustrated in this case by my transition from the wordpress.com version of this site to a hosted one, is analogous to how we consume media, and go about digital lives.

While not rocket science, I was neck deep in buying a domain, picking a hosting company, installing Word Press on it, setting up MySQL, getting all the plug ins I wanted, getting the site to look and feel as I intended it to be (which for now is a carbon copy of the wordpress.com version), and setting up the right tracking (in my case a combination of Google Analytics, Mint and amung.us) was no walk in the park! Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t unachievable, but kept me entertained for a few long hours after which I had that reflection.

When I decided to venture into the world of blogging it took no longer than 5 minutes to be up and running. Everything fell into place automatically and I began to fill the pages with content. I didn’t even stop to think, nor imagined what was going on behind the scenes to support my site and the tens of thousands, if not more, sites being created, edited and maintained and edited.

Now I can finally do the same on itaysworld.com, and I feel all the more accomplished!

Welcome to the new site!

Thank you for making the hike over from the other domain!

From now on please visit itaysworld.com directly. All the new posts will be made here.

In retrospect it would’ve made more sense to start the blog on its own domain from the beginning, to spare you (and myself- since the last 7 hours I’ve been fighting quite the battle with content migration, mySQL setup, DNS propagation, javascript, and the like…) the hassle of migrating, but it was a ‘necessary evil’. I was not quite ready to make the commitment when I got started and had to go through this learning process to get here.

Itaysworld.com it is!

Thank you for reading.

Itay.

E-Mail in 3D

Ok ok… maybe not quite, but I do find it funny that now I get a three way notification of incoming e-mails.

First, my Blackberry vibrates on my waist, that’s ‘Touch’

Second, Outlook pops up the ‘incoming message’ alert, that’s ‘Sight’

And third, with my new Logitech MX 5500 keyboard I get the beeping notification, that’s ‘Hearing’.

All within 1 - 2 seconds.

So there you have it! E-Mail in 3D!

I’ll let you know when I can smell and taste e-mails.. now THAT would be a neat feature… sweet, spicy, stinky, bitter emails… imagine all the names and subject lines you can associate with each taste/smell!

See my Logitech MX 5500 Review here

The Time Fountain - Stops Water Drops in Mid Air!

At least to your eyes it does - and it looks like this came right out of a Back To The Future Movie!

This is one of the coolest items I have ever come across on the Internet. Its not new, it dates back to 2005 or 2006, but every time I watch the video, and show it to my friends it doesn’t cease to amaze me. Now that I have a blog, I have to post it!

The concept is relatively easy to grasp. We’ve all seen how a strobe light makes motion seem to slow down. Well, if timed correctly, it can make motion seem to be backwards or even in reverse. The key is a repetitive movement, such as a drop of water coming down, and the right synchronized rate of light flashes.

This creation is nothing short of genius, and if I wasn’t so intimidated by the thought of soldering and assembling the whole thing and my lack electronics experience, I would have already bought and built this. Buying it assembled, or as kit is also an option, but I’m not willing to pay the price… so for now, I’ll just keep enjoying the video and being virtually wowed.

Amazing isn’t it? For step by step instructions, materials, and pictures from the build, or if you want to buy one, visit:
