Creative CD Hole Art

With iPods pretty much everywhere you turn, CD sales are plummeting lower and lower. There used to be a day when people would pride themselves in the size of their CD collection. Back in the day, vinyls were king, but I think the CD jewel cases had more of a presence. Now we all have [...]

Barcode Art

Pretty much every product we own (from toothpaste to milk carton, from cans of soda to books) has a barcode on it. The barcode was developed in the United States by inventors Joseph Woodland, Jordin Johanson and Bernard Silver on October 7, 1952.
They came up with a machine readable way of representing data. Originally [...]

Reef Tank - WebCam Is Up!

Now that I have 2 fish in the aquarium and things are getting interesting, I set up a website with the Web Cam, a photo gallery and even a high resolution view of the camera.
Feel free to stop by and visit: http://itaysworld.com/reefcam
(you can also get to it from the navigation tab at the top of [...]

Reef Tank - Foxfaced Rabbit Fish In!

I just added my second fish - a Foxfaced Rabbit Fish.

What a fascinating creature! When stressed or scared they change colors, losing the yellow body color. Their spines are pretty venomous…

Supposedly if you have a close encounter with its dorsal fin it ends up swelling up and hurts pretty badly (like a few wasp stings [...]

Reef Tank - First Fish Is In!

Yesterday I added my first fish! A Tomini Tang. His on algae patrol - eating up the hair algae and dinoflaggelates that have invaded my tank.
He was a bit shy at first and insisted on hiding in a cave, but soon there after he started exploring and started eating right away!

Assisting in the clean up [...]

Reef Tank - Geyser Under My Aquarium!

Like the saying says… “Shit Happens” and when its related to aquariums, that “Shit” is usually wet, AND when its a 180 gallon aquarium and pumps that move approx 1000 gallon/hr, its usually a BIG WET MESS…

So today I made my first and probably not last totally stupid mistake in this hobby (actually is started [...]

I finished the rockwork in the front to cover the eductors. Here are close ups of the two rock formations:

Reef Tank - Cycling Almost Complete

Alright - an update is overdue. I’ve been running water tests regularly and over the last few weeks the levels are beginning to normalize. Ammonia, Nitrates and Nitrites are approaching their desired non existence, but still a little bit to go before they’re gone….

The long awaited Reef Keeper Elite controller finally came in and it [...]
