Reef Tank - 202 Lbs. Of Live Rock Are In!

The Live Rock ended up arriving on an earlier flight, and was delivered to my house around 12:00pm EST today!

Here’s the progress we’ve made today…

First off we put 320 lbs. (145 kg) of crushed coral sand to create a 4 inch (~10 cm) deep sand bed.

Then we opened the boxes and selected the best pieces and got to aquascaping right away.

It looks great. Water is on its way and the tank should be filled up and cycling by this afternoon.

For the aquascaping I wanted to go for the look of a natural reef. After reading countless websites, books and from my scuba diving pictures and memories, I wanted to end up with a tank that had trenches, overhangs, caves/swim-throughs, and lots of hiding places for fish and invertebrates, while still allowing for some open water space. I think we nailed it. I’m very pleased with the result.

Here are some more pictures of the end result:

Right now my living room smells like when you go to the beach, get back home and realize the next day that you left a wet towel sitting in the car in the sun all day. YUCK! But once its filled with water we should be good to start the cycle!

Stay tuned! More updates shortly.
