Reef Tank - Build Day 4 - Plumbing Done - Water Test Falied
Busy day! Finally assembled all of the plumbing and pipes. I’m quite pleased with the end result.

With all the pipes and sump in place, it was time to test the plumbing by filling the aquarium for the first time. Sean put the rubber hose connected to my garden hose in the tank. This rubber hose also has a siphon (powered by the garden hose) which can be quickly used to drain the tank should a major leak occur.

And we’ve got water! I started filling the aquarium. It was quite an exciting moment. One I’ve been waiting for since March.
With the water level rising slowly, it rose past the bulkheads and started filling the pipes. Everything was looking pretty good, until we spotted a water drop on one of the elbows on one of the intake pipes from the four large intakes at the back of the tank.
As frustrating as this was, having only one small leak in so much piping is not a big deal. We are going to replace the elbow and continue with the build shortly.
We got about 1 inch of water in there, before starting to siphon it out.

Here is that damned leaky elbow….

We are going to replace that faulty elbow and continue the build in the coming days. This week the liverock and sand will come in and we’ll be ready for the aquascaping. We’ll install the protein skimmer, top off unit and start the cycling of the tank
