Reef Tank - Build Day 1 - Not A Good Day

One step forward, seven steps back. What a frustrating day!

Everything started off well and I prepared a custom pad to protect the hardwood floor from the 2300 lbs. (about 1000 kg) about to be placed on a 6 ft x 2 ft (1.83 m x 0.61 m) space.

I used interlocking foam pads and had to add a few inches to one end and fabricate corner pieces to fit. Elmer’s Carpenter glue and toothpicks made this easy.

Here’s where the tank will rest, after finishing the fabrication

So far so good, but this is where everything went wrong…

Next it was time to drill the stand to fit the custom holes that had been drilled in the tank during build, prior to tempering the glass.

Here’s an action shot of Sean G. who’s in charge of the build,

plumbing and who is teaching me everything I need to know about salt water tanks.

It so happens that the stand that was delivered has wood support legs exactly where the front holes are drilled, and will not allow for the bulkheads to be connected properly.

After drilling the back holes we came to the realization that this stand will not work with my tank.

The project is on hold until we get a new stand and canopy in.
